There is a wide variety of materials used for painting that an artist can choose from. While many prefer to work on paper or canvas, this Singaporean artist has taken wooden boards as a medium.
Ivan Hoo specializes in creating anamorphic pieces that trick the senses making them appear to be almost impossibly realistic. Even though you know they’re just paintings, it’s still hard to convince your eyes.
Ivan uses woods because of the way it holds color.
The pastel pops up on the wood.
The grainy feel of the wood combines perfectly with the texture of the pastel.
His medium gives each piece a depth that makes his creations to stand out.
He used to focus on creating portraits
Then his creative mind continued to evolve.
And developed an idea of drawing events or “happenings” on the wood.
His first was the one which shows a liquid dripping on the board.
It’s really hard to tell they are just drawings.
They are so brilliant…
So amazingly flawless…
So unbelievably realistic…
You would be tempted to touch them and convince yourself, it’s just art.
