10 Fake Foods And Scams That Can Be Found In China, You Would Really Wish It Won’t Reach Your Plates

China is among the world’s largest producer of almost everything. Because of the cheap and enough workforce, companies are placing their factories in China resulting to massive profit to investors. But, the country is also now for its counterfeit or fake products ranging from bags, electronics, machines, and even food. That gives China a bad name in the industry of producing goods.

Even with this fact, the country also suffers scarcity in resources for the benefits of the lower class people. That’s why, many are just producing anything that ca be duplicated to gain profit without thinking of the result to others.

Here are just a few of the FAKE foods and scams in China:

1. Plastic Rice
Rice is the staple food of many Asian countries and criminals in China knew that the demand for rice is just huge. That’s why, it didn’t escape from counterfeiting. The fake rice from China is made from potatoes, sweet potatoes, and a synthetic resin molded just like the shape of rice. Fake rice is common in many Chinese Markets most especially in the Taiyuan, Shaanxi Province. Consuming about three bowls is like eating a plastic bag. So dangerous.

Tofu is one favorite food in the Asian region. It is made from a mixture of soy milk and a certain coagulant. But, recently, Chinese authorities closed factories in the Wuhan, Hubei province that are producing fake tofu. This tofu was made using different chemicals like flour, monosodium glutamate, ice and pigment then selling it with the name of a real tofu producer.

3. Rat Mutton
Mutton is the name for the lamb’s meat. In China, dishonest people uses meat from minks, rats, and foxes with added chemicals then selling then as a pricey mutton. The police already seized about 20,000 tons of this kind of meat making it look very effective. The difference between real mutton and the fake one is that, the red parts of the meat don’t separate when being pulled or boiled.

4. Walnuts stuffed with cement
Way back in 2012, an incident involving a man in Zhengzhou City in China wherein he purchased shelled walnuts only to find that broken pieces of concrete replaced the nuts. Each concrete piece was being wrapped with paper to prevent any noise leading to suspicion.

5. Contaminated Bottled Water
Water is needed by all people. And like other needs, this is being faked in China. Authorities have found out about this scam wherein plastic bottles are being filled with tap water and even poorly-treated water and sealed to look like genuine ones.

6. Adulterated Honey
China is the world’s largest producer of honey. But, still, we can’t be assure if all of these are real ones. Some are adulterated or when the real honey is mixed with sugar syrup or other syrups to produce more.

7. Rotten Rice Noodles
According to reports, the fake rice noodles produced in China are made from rotten and moldy rice grains that are being cured with canc3r-producing chemicals like sulfur dioxide. As police inspected factories in Dongguan City, they’ve found out that the 50 factories can produce about 500,000 kg. of fake rice noodles a day.

8. Clenbuterol-Laced Pork
The pork industry didn’t escape counterfeiting. Some pens use a chemical called clenbuteron or “lean meat power” which helps in burning fats in swine making a leaner meat. Mixed with feeds, this chemical can cause various issues in the body, heart problems and others.

9. Fake Wine
In a report by China Central Television, it said that “half of all the wine sold in China is FAKE.” And even those which are called “premium” ones. The action done by the government and the real producers of wine in the Guangdong Provincial Wine Testing Center is by making an app to track all the wine bottles and their cartons. In hotels and restaurants, bottles are being broken after using to prevent reusing.

10. Cardboard buns
Fake buns are made from cardboard being mixed with certain chemicals and pork flavorings. Fake Baozi, the common name of the buns, are produced by mixing the cut cardboard with caustic soda – the chemical that is used to produce paper and soap. These are then mixed with pork and ther seasonings. According to the List verse, “The Chinese government responded this time, saying that the foreign media organizations had taken the news too far and that the fake buns were actually a hoax.”

It’s really good to be very vigilant and observant on what we’re eating.
