Most artists would use their skillful hands to do creative artworks, not New Orleans-based artist Heather Hansen. Instead of using hands, she uses her body through dance movements.
Before Hansen made her artworks through dancing on a blank of paper as a drawing compass tool to create perfect circles and geometric shapes. She also collaborates with music artists to create original scores for her live performances. The music in the series, ‘Emptied Gestures’ was made by musician Jesse Clasen.
Hansen’s art can also be called “Action painting” or “gestural abstraction”, in that through her “dance” there’s a spontaneous, “emotional” aspect to her drawings onto the canvas, rather than it being carefully applied.
