Lake Whatcom is known to be the drinking water source for the residents of Bellingham City and Whatcom County. It’s also a venue for some recreational activities like motor boating, swimming and fishing.
But in one of its inlets, something unusual happened and was captured in this video you’re about to see – two river otters were caught trying to perform a synchronized swimming.
River otters are beyond question… ADORABLE. They are the playful kind of water creatures – they love to slide, belly flop and somersault. Play helps otter cubs learn how to hunt for food as well as it keeps their family bond strong. But river otters are also excellent swimmers and divers that’s why they are called underwater acrobats.
It really amazes me to see these two cute little otters show off their skills in propelling their bodies into the water in what appears to be a choreographed routine. It seems like they share a collective consciousness as they try to perform their stunts in synchronized movements.
Watching these otters move in perfect harmony overwhelms my heart because they are so irresistible. If only I can jump into the water and swim with them (which of course I cannot, and if do they would probably swim away).
