This Underwater Phenomenon Looks Marvelous. But When It Reaches The Ground, It Can Be So Dangerous!

There are many things on Earth that we find interesting especially those which look new to us and seem to be so strange and mysterious. But our knowledge is very limited and we cannot totally grasp all the information about everything that’s living on our planet. Just like this one featured in the following video – a mysterious event which happens under water and is called “brinicles”.

What are brinicles? They are frozen columns of ice which form under the sea ice. This icy phenomenon is actually caused by an extremely cold brine (a highly salt-saturated water) which sinks down to the ocean floor. It is much denser and colder than the surrounding water.

Watch the following amazing underwater footage captured by scientists Hugh Miller and Doug Anderson and see how this incredible brinicle is formed and how it can be a danger to the sea creatures.

This video which have been sped up immensely was actually captured over the course of 12 hours. And within that span of time, the super salty ice stalactites have finally reached down the ocean floor and freezes everything it touches.

And as it touches the bottom of the sea, creatures like star fish and sea urchins are on the verge of danger of being trapped in ice. Because they move too slowly, the chance of being able to escape these fingers of death is so slim.

Brinicles are undeniably marvelous yet it can also be so dangerous!
