Whether you’re born from the classical music era, from romantic period or from 20th century music, the art form of sound and silence so-called as ‘music’ chooses nobody to influence, and has been the lives of many people for many generations. For all music lovers out there (like me), music can never be replaced by anything. Music lives inside one’s body, soul, and spirit.
For most people who loves to hear music every now and then, collecting the albums of one’s favorite singer or band has been the basic proof of being an avid fan. It’s also the best way of saying “I love this music more that the music of this generation.” For so many albums produced by different singers, most of their album covers are taken from the rural streets- not just for it’s soon popularity, but also for meaningful history of the said music.
Have you also wondered where does popular music album covers captured? And what their photo shoot locations looks like by this time?
A music lover Bob Egan, who is a New York real estate agent, also wondered about it, and so to answer his curiosity, he decided to go back to where his favorite album covers originated. By the use of history fused with music, Egan was able to tracked down where the album covers was originated by combining the old and new in his series of album covers.
Bob Egan started this project in 1977 when he moved into an apartment in Greenwich village, blocks away from the place where the cover for ‘The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan was photographed.
In an interview Egan had with Open Culture, he said that he “grew up during the classic rock era. His ‘musical comfort food’ is Dylan, Van Morrison, Lou Reed, and The Grateful Dead.. He think of it like this: If he went to England and someone asked me if he wanted to see Westminster Abbey or Abbey Road, he’d take Abbey Road.”
