I Would Love To Visit This Crazy Rock In Norway, But Won’t Dare Do What These People Did…Awesome!

If you’re looking for a hiking destination, better plan a trip to Norway from mid-June to the end of September and visit the hands-down scariest Trolltunga.

Trolltunga is a giant piece of rock that hangs horizontally out of a rock cliff, suspended about half a mile above the Ringedalsvatnet lake below. It is believed that way back in the ice age, glacial water froze a hunk of this mountain and caused it to break off, leaving what the locals call “The Troll’s Tongue.”

The hike goes through high mountains, pass through creeks, and takes 2,000 feet up the side of the mountain. But once you get there, the reward is breathtaking. Standing on the rock, you’ll see a spectacular view across the Folgefonna plateau glaciers and feel you’re on the top of the world.

But before you get too excited, it is best advised that you:

“Consider carefully whether you are in good enough shape and have the right equipment before setting out. Plan carefully and start early in the day. There is no mobilephone coverage along the route. All nature based activities are at your own risk. You will need sturdy hiking boots, bring extra clothing and be prepared for bad weather. Bring map and compass, food and drink. Respect the nature. Weather in the high mountains can change quickly – check the latest weather forecast before going to Trolltunga.”

Because Trolltunga is one of those “bucket list” experiences that’s not for the faint of heart.

The following are photos showing what these folks who have been there encountered and what those people who are planning to be there will experience:
