Aviation experts in Hawaii are still baffled how the 16-year-old boy survived hiding in the wheel well of a flight from California to Hawaii and arrived at the airport safely. The boy survived the trip halfway across the Pacific Ocean unharmed despite frigid temperatures at 38,000 feet and lack of oxygen.
According to the FBI and airline officials in Honolulu in an interview with Associated Press, they stated that on Sunday night the boy was discovered on the tarmac at the Maui Airport.
Based upon the security footage from the San Jose airport, the boy was from Santa Clara, California, he hopped a fence to get to Hawaiian Airlines Flight 45. Initial investigations showed that the child run away from his family after an argument. He unconsciously landed in Hawaii by hopping down the wheel well surviving a total of 5 1/2 hours flight, from California to the island of Hawaii.
The airline personnel in Hawaii notified the airport security upon arrival, even the authorities in Hawaii noted that the boy is “exceptionally lucky to have survived” the flight.
