According to Distractify, the creator of the app, Matthew Homann, came up with the service while he was going through a divorce and grew sick of people bugging him about whether he had met someone new.
He said that some users are people who don’t want their parents to find out they’re gay. Others are soldiers who want to pretend they have a girlfriend waiting for them back home. While many are people who want to practice flirting with a boyfriend or girlfriend.
