There are moments in our lives when we are exposed to something we never expected – we are surprised by unforeseen circumstances which give us a once in a lifetime experience we will never ever forget.
You may have heard of David Attenborough’s legendary encounter with a family of mountain gorillas or John J King II’s incredible chance encounter with a troop of wild mountain gorillas. But have you ever seen Charlie Bird’s up-close-and-personal encounter with some elephant seal pups?
The following video shows the adorable moment reporter and photographer Charlie Bird makes friends with two baby elephant seals. The journalist was traveling through Antarctica working on a feature story when he came across a group of elephant seals resting on the shore. He then decided to get closer to capture an up-close photo of them.
What happened next was such an amazing encounter (and surely made us jealous of Charlie). It’s just so cute to watch as the two seal pups show their love and interest to their newest friend.
However, if the seals happened to be an adult male, it probably wouldn’t have gone so well and worse, Charlie would have been in trouble as southern elephant seal bulls reach 16 ft (4.9 m) in length and 6,600 lbs (3,300 kg) in weight.
