This underground house was originally built at the request of paranoid businessman Girard “Jerry” B. Henderson who was concerned about being blasted during the Cold War.

It was designed to house a family for an entire year without requiring them to venture above ground.

The house shouldn’t ever make you feel claustrophobic, despite being 26 feet below the ground.

The 15,200-square-foot basement has lights that change depending on the time of day, and the airy overhead sky is blue with white clouds.
