This Athlete’s Painful Fall Taught Everyone A Major Life Lesson…And Gave Her A Winning Battle!

To be successful, one must experience failure. How will you be able to get up, when you have not fallen? Just as what Paul Simon said, “you got to learn how to fall, before you learn to fly.” It’s not how hard you fall that matters, it’s the courage to continue that counts.

And speaking of falling down and getting up, here’s an inspirational story of Heather Dorniden; the runner who didn’t give up:

In March of 2008, Heather joined the 600-meter race at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.

The event was held in Minnesota so Heather was running in front of a friendly crowd.

With only 200 meters to go, Heather was already on the lead pack of four runners.

When suddenly, the unexpected happened. Heather’s feet got tangled up with those of a Penn State runner, causing her to fall, skidding her stomach to the ground and bouncing on the track.

But then, she never gave up. She stood up and continued the race.

Though she just ended up second, her performance left a mark in the Field House track. She was also named the first-ever recipient of its Most Courageous Performance award by the Big Ten Network.

“It’s probably one of my greatest running memories of all time. It’s something that is completely unexplainable to me besides through a higher power. I feel like the Lord just filled me up and gave me the opportunity to show what amazing things can happen through Him,” Heather said.
