Ancient people, or commonly known as tribal groups present in the world are deeply known for their traditional and peculiar actions towards real world. Since they are not widely recognized, their lifestyle and customs are said to be odd, weird and some kind of taboo before our eyes.
There are numerous kinds of ancient people all over the countries, and though they’re seemed to be left out from the reality, they shared almost half of our cultures and beliefs. It’s quite strange to believe but we seldom inherit their abilities, from their very first ways to survive: dwellings (caves as homes) and farming, they’ve been part of us and we can never take that reality.
Historians did a lot of research about their existence, yet somehow, some of them are recorded dead, and some are missing. And so not to regret without recording their continued survival, British photographer Jimmy Nelson did an awesome photography project which he dubbed ‘Before They Pass Away’ featuring some of the last surviving ancient tribes located in some countries.
Nelson fearlessly captured these ancient peoples’ everyday life, traditions and customs that are distinctively different from ours these days, and here are just some of them.
Karo in the Omo Valley of Africa’s Great Rift Valley
Kazakh in Eastern Europe and northern parts of Central Asia
Goroka in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
Huli in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
Ladakhi in the Northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir
Tsaatan in the remote subarctic taiga of Mongolia
Kalam in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea
Maasai in Kenya and Tanzania
Maori in New Zealand
Nenet in the Yamal peninsula
Mursi in Ethiopia
Though these ancient people are widely different from us, it’s a reality that they need some of our attention, respect and acceptance. In the end, we’re still like them- HUMANS who have life and heart.
