Do-It-Yourself: Grow Your Own Avocado At Home By Following This Simple Method

You name it. Avocados are one of the best and amazing fruits ever existed. It can be used in cooking (either in dessert or meal), it’s for a perfect spread and dip and use in many beauty solutions like face mask. You can buy avocados in any fruit stall but if you’re on a budget, you can actually grow your own.. not in your backyard but inside your house. Yes, seriously.

Here is amazing step-by-step method you can follow to grow yours, at home:

1. First, make sure that you remove the pit. The narrower part of the pit will be the top, and the wider part will be the bottom.

2. Next, holding the pit right-side up, insert four toothpicks 1/4″ deep, evenly spaced around the pit.

3. Place the pit in a glass of water filled to the rim. The rounded bottom of the pit should sit in the water. Leave the glass on a north-facing windowsill, and make sure to change the water frequently.

4. The pit should start to sprout in anywhere from 2-8 weeks. The taproot  needs to stay submerged, or else it will dry out and die.

5. As the roots grow longer, the avocado will eventually send up a small sprout from the top.

6. Once your sprout has reached about 6″ height, it’s ready to be transplanted into soil.

7. Plant your avocado in a small pot of household compost, and cut the plant back to 3″ to encourage new growth.

You will need to give it frequent waterings, keeping the soil moist but not saturated. For every 6″ it grows, you can pinch out the top two sets of leaves to make it bushier rather than tall. (H/T: Diply)
