A wildlife photographer captured the moment a warthog steps into the path of a hungry lion which marks the beginning of a wildlife showdown.
Dr. Trix Jonker, 57, from the city of Bloemfontein in the Free State Province of South Africa paid a visit at the Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. She said she had nearly missed the stunning moment as “the gates were closing in an hour”. But just in time, she saw “the warthog coming straight towards some resting lions.” And that’s where it all started.
After he had escaped from an attack, the foolish unsuspecting warthog doubled back to the den and met face to face with a hungry lion.
The fierce beast then caught the wild swine by surprise and pounced its prey.
They started to wrestle to the ground sending a dust of cloud up in the air.
The battle lasted far longer than what Dr. Jonker expected.
And the warthog put up an impressive fight – fighting for his life.
But when he felt powerless, he tried to make a break for freedom.
And when the dust finally settled, Dr. Jonker saw the lion holding the warthog between its enormous paws.
The lion just won the battle and enjoyed a victorious bite while a lioness came in to join him.
The king of the jungle has was once again proven his authority being on the top of the food chain.
After an intense duel, Dr. Jonker already had a roll of unbelievable footage. “I couldn’t believe how tough the warthog was, and was absolutely stunned by what I saw that afternoon. It’s amazing I managed to capture it on camera.”
