EMPATHETIC PERSON – Are you an empath? Here are some signs and indications that are associated with being this kind of person.

According to the Cambridge Dictionary, empathetic is defined as “having the ability to imagine how someone else feels”. In Psychology, this word is not official yet but being an empath is a concept associated with people who are extremely attuned to the feelings and emotions of others. It came from the word empathy which means the ability to understand another person’s feelings through their point of view.

Empathetic Person

People who have high levels of empathy have strong social, communication, and leadership skills. However, sometimes, they struggle to draw the line between themselves and others.

The two main forms of empathy are emotional (our feelings mirror someone else’s) and cognitive (a person who intellectually understands the other person’s emotions).

However, to some psychologists, the types are:

  • Emotional Empath

– sensitive to other people’s emotions

  • Intuitive Empath

– being good at picking up the thoughts and emotions of others

  • Physical Empath

– being sensitive to the physical pain of others

  • Dark Empath

– using your own insights about other’s feelings for your own benefit

The signs and traits

  1. Close and intimate contact is overwhelming to you.
  2. You have good intuition.
  3. They take comfort in natural setting after being overstimulated to sensations, sounds, and emotions.
  4. Being uncomfortable in crowded places as they find it hard to handle the “emotional noise”.
  5. You care too much by feeling WITH someone.
  6. People around you tell your problems to you.
  7. High sensitivity to sounds, smells, or sensations.
  8. You seek time to recharge.
  9. You actively avoid conflict.
  10. Oftentimes, you feel like yo don’t fit in as you find it difficult to relate to others.
  11. You isolate as isolation helps you recover from being overwhelmed.
