You Might Be Storing Your Drinking Water And Food Too Long In Risky Plastic Containers.

People today are more conscious about the food they eat and the water they drink. More than foods, we need water to supply our body with the energy it needed and replace the sweat our body released.

At times, our tendency is to buy some bottled water and keep it refrigerated and eventually keep on refilling it. But how long can we store water in plastic containers?

While there are various ways on how plastic containers are made, it is a must that we should consider the certain containers as food safe.

Not only water stored in containers should be taken consideration of, even the foods that we thought we keep in safe containers should be observed too.

As for commercially produced plastic containers, these kinds are considered safe (labels can be usually found at the bottom of the container.)

1. Polyethylene terephthalate (PETE)
Plastic water bottles, plastic of soda and juice containers are usually made of #1 PETE. Those which are not made of this could produce harmful chemicals that could mix into your water.

2. High Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
While there are containers made as HDPE, there can be products too that could have mold release agent which is risky. It pays to check the gallon jugs or the blue colored water containers before refilling it.

3. Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
Plastic bags are basically made of LDPE, and those which are not made of it may be too harmful or too thin.

4. Polypropylene (PP)
Rubbermaid type food storage containers are made of PP. It is safe as long as you make sure it is really made from PP.

Storing water inside a particular plastic container may be helpful but for a long term purposes, make sure you keep it in a HDPE food grade place it on a cool place out of the sun.

Thank you so much for dropping by. Have a safe day ahead.
