This Woman Travels 1,652 Miles And Pays $1,100 To Save Hundreds Of Dogs From China’s Yulin Festival- A True Hero

You’ve probably heard the dark secret of China about their consumption of dog meat. Every summer at every year, the city of Yulin has this barbaric festival known as ‘dog meat eating’ where nearly 10,000 dogs are killed and then consumed foe them to celebrate (It’s inhumane and I can’t hold my tears writing this).

This year, Yulin festival has drew huge criticism from the international community (I know you’re part of it) by the use of hashtag #StopYulin2015 to protest the fest, hoping that this merciless dog slaughter and canine consumption will stop. To 65-years-old retired teacher Yang Xiaoyun, saving these poor dogs will be her last resort and so she traveled more than 2,400 km (1,500 miles) and spent more than 7,000 yuan ($1,100 or €990) to save 100 dogs from certain death.

Yang Xiaoyun runs an animal shelter in Tianjin and like other activists in China, she hopes (we all did) that the festival will be condemned because as far as we know, their festival is unacceptable. How could a man’s best friend turn out to be a food in a plate? Unfortunately, Yulin Festival was still held by merciless dog-eater Chinese despite plea from all people around the world. Glad there are people like Yang Xiaoyun who are taking action. God bless you, teacher Xiaoyun!
