Autism mainly impairs social life of an individual. It greatly affects the brain of the person carrying it, making him incapable of processing information within cognition and language. Because of this, it is quite hard for them to have a proper verbal and non-verbal communication.
Unknown for many of us, there are thousands of children are affected with this disorder, and most of these children’s parents are in deep thought on what to do. Some of them would do proper school training, while there are some who would rely to some medical assistance like therapists.
Meet Iris Grace. She’s 5 years old and was diagnosed with autism in 2011. With some help brought by therapists her parents sought help for, Iris Grace’s amazing talent was discovered.
It was later found out that she loves colors and has a passion for painting. Since then, her parents were inspired to let Iris Grace develop her skill. They encouraged Iris Grace to paint and as As her mother writes on her website,
“We have been encouraging Iris to paint to help with speech therapy, joint attention and turn taking. Then we realized that she is actually really talented and has an incredible concentration span of around 2 hours each time she paints. I make up some cups of very watery paints, she chooses which one she would like to use and gets me to make more when she needs it and she mixes her own colors from mug to mug. Her autism has created a style of painting which I have never seen in a child of her age, she has an understanding of colors and how they interact with each other. She beams with excitement and joy when I get out the paints, it lifts her mood every time. She has found a way of expressing herself that is so beautiful, so we wanted to share it and thereby raise awareness of her condition, which is currently affecting around 100,000 children in the UK and these numbers are rising.”
Right after Iris Grace shared her incredible talent, many parents of autistic kids were given hope and Iris Grace’s painting has attracted attention around the world.
