Can you imagine what it would feel like to be hanging for your life on a cliff that’s thousands of feet high? The following video shows the dramatic helicopter rescue of a man who was stranded on a cliff face, and it’s really terrifying to watch.
According Snohomish HRT, they received a call from the King County Sheriff on the evening of June 30, asking assistance for a hiker who had been stuck on the side of a cliff above Melakwa Lake in Washington. The rescue team was then deployed and the helicopter crew found the stranded hiker 5,000 ft above sea-level on the west side of the mountain peak in vertical terrain.
One of the rescuer, wearing a bright orange suit, secured his harness and lowered himself down the mountain from the helicopter. The rescuer safely strapped the hiker into a harness and then they were hauled up back to the helicopter. Using the Strop extraction technique, the rescue team was able to successfully bring the hiker to safety.
Not much is known as to how the hiker, who appeared to be unharmed after the terrifying moment, became trapped on the cliff and his identity wasn’t even revealed. But what’s important is, he’s now safe.
