#1. Pixelated Portrait of a Man by Andrew Myers
Andrew uses thousands of a very lifeless object – a screw – which he drills into a backboard to create a realistic portrait whose depth is revealed when viewed from the side.
#2. Inflatable Dinosaur Toys by Brett Kern
These are actually ceramic works that mimic the details and texture of a balloon. Brett sculpts his own molds out of clay and uses glaze to emphasize his materials’ depth and details.
#3. Potted Plants by Jack Long
Jack Long captures the whole flower, leaves, and pot in a single splash – a perfectly timed images of colorful liquid drops as they splash in the air.
#4. Grainy B&W Photo by Kumi Yamashita
Kumi Yamashita uses a single, unbroken thread wrapped and twisted around thousands of nails to create stunning portraits of women and men.
#5. Sepia-Toned Portraits by Max Zorn
Max Zorn carefully layers translucent packing tape on the Plexiglass and cutting it with a scalpel and hangs them on the street lamps to create a beautiful graphic effect.
#6. Mural of Martin Luther King, Jr. by Pete Fecteau
Another way to make use of your “hard to solve” Rubik’s cube is this stunning art. Pete Fecteau used 4,242 officially licensed Rubik’s Cubes to create a mosaic of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
#7. Box of Money by Randall Rosenthal
This seemingly cardboard box full of cash is actually a wooden sculpture done by Randall Rosenthal carved out of a single (glued-together) block of wood.
#8. Painting of a Musician by Red Hong Yi
“Red” Hong Yi uses tea cup as her brush and coffee stains as her paint to create this giant portrait of Taiwanese singer Jay Chou.
#9. Goldfish in a Basin by Riusuke Fukahori
What looks like a basin filled with goldfish is actually a 3D illusion by Riusuke Fukahori. He intricately hand paints goldfish onto the surface of vessels, typically japanese household items like sushi okes and cypress sake cups. A liquid resin is poured, acrylic painting is done, the solution is allowed to dry, then the process is repeated over and over again to achieve a realistic illustration.
#10. Graffiti Mural by Saimir Strati
Artist used a whopping 229,764 wine corks to create this World’s Largest Cork Mosaic.
#11. Giant Architectural Sculpture by Scott Weaver
It took Scott Weaver 35 years, over 3,000 hours, and 100,000 toothpicks to complete this giant sculpture “Rolling through the Bay”.
#12. Pop Art Collages by Vinicius Quesada
This isn’t your typical accumulation of surreal imagery; because Vinicius Quesada uses his own blood, drawn by professionals at a hospital, and urine to add tone to each of the color he uses in his paintings.
#13. Magical Castle Model by Wataru Itou
This incredible model castle – with electrical lights, a train and a ferris wheel – is entirely made of paper. Wataru Itou took over four years to complete this fascinating artwork.
#14. Fashionable Dresses by Yeonju Sung
Crafty Korean artist Yeonju Sung has constructed a multitude of garments out of real, edible items that include (but are not limited to) bananas, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggplants, bread, eggs, and even bubble gum.
