Rare ‘Prehistoric’ Shark Species Found In Australian Waters, A Terrifying ‘Living Fossil’

What would you feel if you found something so terrifying? For sure you’ll be in shock like what fisherman named David Guillot in Australia felt when he and his group pulled up their nets and found an unusual shark species we’ve never heard of before.

This is what they’ve found- a scary ‘sea monster’ which looks like a snake fused with shark’s appearance.

According to some findings, this creature is known as a frilled shark (Chlamydoselachus anguineus) that has ancestors dating back 80 million years. It is believed to be a ‘living fossil’ and lives in waters less than 1,200 meters deep, has the body of an eel and the tail of a shark, with 300 teeth in 25 rows.

A frilled shark like this one, found by a Japanese fisherman in 2007, was recently caught off the coast of Australia.

The frilled shark gets its name from six pairs of gill slits near its neck, and captures prey by bending its body and lunging forward in a snake-like manner and can swallow its prey whole. (Mashable)

“We couldn’t find a fisherman who had ever seen one before,” Simon Boag, from the South East Trawl Fishing Association, told ABC. “It does look 80 million years old. It looks prehistoric, it looks like it’s from another time.”
